Asian markets declined today as investors indicated that gains earlier in the week were excessive during the economic downturn. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 Average dropped 1.1% after jumping almost 5% the day before. The MSCI index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan inched down 0.2%. Shares in South Korea fell 0.5%, while shares in Shanghai and Singapore gave up more than 1%. Markets in Hong Kong and Taiwan closed with modest gains.
