SEC may seek more oversight of credit-rating firms

Securities and Exchange Commission Chairwoman Mary Schapiro has suggested that the regulatory agency may seek more authority from Congress to oversee credit-rating agencies. Since 2006, the SEC has been allowed to craft rules aimed at increasing disclosure and eliminating conflicts of interest. "I'm not sure if it's enough, to be perfectly honest," Schapiro said to the House Appropriations Financial Services subcommittee.
