President Barack Obama reportedly has picked Dr. Margaret Hamburg, former New York City health commissioner, to lead the FDA and Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, Baltimore's health commissioner, as the agency's deputy chief. Hamburg's and Sharfstein's backgrounds fit the Obama administration's search for leaders who can restore public health as the FDA's core mission, a health-industry consultant said.
