Labor relations tense amid record number of contract talks

With about two-thirds of all airline labor contracts currently open for discussion, the industry has never seen so many simultaneous negotiations, experts say. Consultant Robert Mann says unions are in a "feeding frenzy" after years of discontent over reductions in pay and benefits. A pro-labor administration in Washington is emboldening unions to ratchet up the pressure, just as the airline industry begins to recover from a crippling downturn in travel demand.
