Lawmakers examine federal enforcement of animal protection laws

Lawmakers are looking into charges made in a Government Accountability Office report released last week of lax federal enforcement of animal protection laws. "How can the public have confidence in the safety of the food they eat if inspections at plants aren't consistent or in some cases, if they're not happening at all," said Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, who has held hearings on the issue of animal protection and food safety.
