PCV13 vaccine may have big effect among young children

A CDC report said a recently approved broader pneumococcal vaccine could significantly reduce the rate of disease in young children. The FDA approved the PCV13 vaccine last month, and it covers pneumococcal strains that were responsible for 64% of pneumococcal cases in children under age 5 in 2007.
