Expert: Microscopic fungi can boost growth of edible plants

A microscopic fungi known as mycorrhizae can help the growth of edible plants because the fungi helps nitrogen absorption and storage, horticulturist Maureen Gilmer writes. The process can be shortened by inoculating pea plants with mycorrhizae or by using potting soils that are replete with the fungi, Gilmer notes.
