Sen. Alexander's call to end PTC is "disappointing"

Sen. Lamar Alexander's call to end the renewable-energy Production Tax Credit is "disappointing," according to Stephen A. Smith, executive director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. Allowing the PTC to expire at the end of the year will discourage private investment in the industry and jeopardize 37,000 jobs, including at least 1,000 wind-energy jobs at seven manufacturing plants in Tennessee, Smith writes. "This is particularly troubling as wind energy represents one of the fastest-growing sources of U.S. manufacturing jobs."
