Solar startup Halotechnics seeks to combat high cost and intermittent power generation in solar technologies through an efficient thermal energy-storage system. The system could achieve the cost-per-kilowatt-hour target of the Department of Energy's SunShot Initiative. "To hit that 6-cent goal, or get close to it, you have to go to a higher-temperature system," said Mark Mehos of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
