U.S. nuclear plants to add emergency equipment, exec says

U.S. nuclear plants will be adding generators, pumps and other emergency equipment to be better prepared for natural disasters such as what struck the Fukushima Daiichi plant in Japan a year ago, said Jim Scarola, senior vice president and chief nuclear officer of Progress Energy. "One of the things we set out to do is not to take the stance that it can't happen here," Scarola said. "What we're really concerned about is being able to provide water and energy" to maintain operations of emergency equipment during such events, he added.
