Japanese consumers pick up on Abe euphoria

High expectations generated by Japan's new government under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have filtered down to consumers, with the Cabinet Office's monthly consumer sentiment index rising last month to its highest reading in 5½ years. A second index, by the Nippon Research Institute, showed consumers' economic outlook for the next 12 months compared with the previous year at its highest point since the polling began 36 years ago.
