OutServe-SLDN chief envisions trans-friendly military

In her first "State of LGBT Military Service Address," OutServe-SLDN Executive Director Allyson Robinson told an audience at a fundraising dinner in Washington, D.C., that one of the group’s top goals is to change a policy that forbids military service by openly transgender Americans. "Qualified Americans who are transgender and who want to serve in uniform are still forbidden from doing so by medical regulations that have become ridiculously obsolete," Robinson said. Among other agenda items is overturning the Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibits the Pentagon from extending certain benefits to the same-sex spouses of gay and lesbian troops.
