Traceability comments due soon to FDA

Stakeholders have until April 4 to submit comments to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on recommendations contained in a report on two pilot projects on food product traceability conducted by the Institute of Food Technologists. The pilot projects were mandated by the Food Safety Modernization Act, which was signed into law in January 2011 but has yet to be fully implemented. A list of specific questions about the effect of implementing the report's recommendations appears in the Federal Register notice announcing the comment period. Among the suggestions from IFT: FDA should request data from producers for more than one step up and one step down in the supply chain.
