Concrete huts built to protect salamanders

David Akin, president of Ohio-based Bluffton Precast Concrete, and biologist Greg Lipps worked together to help protect the Eastern Hellbender salamander, which is experiencing a decline in its population. They've developed the Bender Hut as a shelter for the amphibian. It's similar to openings under large rocks and can be put in rivers and streams. The structure is made of precast concrete and weighs 150 pounds.
