Government programs boost broadband performance, GAO finds

Broadband networks funded by the public sector perform better than networks that are fully funded by the private sector, according to a study by the Government Accountability Office. "Service providers have used federal funding for expansions and upgrades, such as building out to previously unserved areas and replacing old copper lines with fiber optic cable, resulting in faster and more reliable broadband connections," the study said.
