Senior biography project gives 4th-graders a perspective on history

Fourth-graders in Las Cruces, N.M., created written and video biographies of 12 senior citizens for a living history project. Students met with their subjects four times to discuss events ranging from the Vietnam War to the Sept. 11 terrorists attacks, and participated in a cooking activity together using vegetables from the school garden. "I wanted to get my students out in the community more and give them a different perspective," teacher Sheryl Barham said.
