Kroger Fourth-Quarter Earnings Dip 5%

Kroger yesterday reported a 5% drop in fourth-quarter earnings, citing reorganization charges, a sluggish economy and tough competition. The Cincinnati-based supermarket operator earned $350.4 million for the three months that ended Feb. 2 compared with $367.9 million last year. Wal-Mart's supercenters have raised the bar for Kroger's grocery stores.
