University Of California Weighs SAT Alternative

The Board of Regents yesterday met to consider a proposal to drop the SAT 1 as a requirement for admission. The faculty Board of Admissions and Relations with Schools presented a proposal for a new subject-based test that would cover core academic subjects. UC President Richard Atkinson has said that college-entrance exams need to be more in tune with what students learn in high school. The SAT 1 is a key admissions requirement at most schools nationwide.
