Air sac mites cause bird to stop singing

Air sac mites, arachnids just like ticks, spiders and mange mites, can infest birds' air sacs, obstructing air flow and respiration and effectively preventing birds from singing, writes veterinarian Jeff Kahler. Dr. Kahler explains that mites can be seen moving in a bird's trachea by shining an intense, focused light on the area, and treatment involves administering a parasiticide and cleaning the bird's environment.
