T-Mobile expands HSPA+, sees coexistence with LTE

T-Mobile USA added eight smaller markets to its HSPA+ roster Tuesday and said its plans to deploy Long-Term Evolution technology starting next year will not inevitably clash with efforts to speed up its current network from a theoretical limit of 42 megabits per second to 84 Mbps. In a blog post, Chief Technology Officer Neville Ray wrote, "The evolution of HSPA+ is still an opportunity for us and offering HSPA+ 84 ... is something we'll continue to evaluate because the capability is there in the network." Also, T-Mobile has joined the Rural Cellular Association, a group whose membership includes Sprint Nextel and MetroPCS.
