Calif. needs to study fracking, governor says

California needs to consider hydraulic fracturing for shale oil development, Gov. Jerry Brown said. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, California's Monterey shale play could contain more than 15 billion barrels of oil. Any fracking decisions would be based on common sense, science and a process that "listens to people but also wants to take advantage of the great opportunities we have," Brown said.
