Physician: Special care needed to screen for hereditary CRC

Screening strategies are needed for people under age 50 who have a genetic predisposition to hereditary colorectal cancer, such as Lynch syndrome, said Dr. Steven Itzkowitz of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He said physicians need to take thorough family histories and look for symptoms of familial adenomatous polyposis outside of intestinal presentations.
