People planning for retirement should be performing a retirement-needs calculation instead of guessing at a number they'll need to save, according to a MetLife executive. He suggests four questions advisers should ask clients to help them prepare: What payment plan will clients use for retirement withdrawals? Can clients rely on Social Security? Have they considered medical costs? Do they need to pay off debt? Use the Personal Finance Report Card from the AICPA PFP Division as an interview tool with clients and to review client progress in critical financial planning areas such as retirement, tax, investment, estate planning and more.
