SNA works to lift fruit, veggie mandate for school meals

In advance of the reauthorization of federal school nutrition legislation slated for 2015, the School Nutrition Association is seeking reconsideration of a rule that requires students to take a half cup of fruits and vegetables at every school meal. "We have been hearing from a lot of members who are concerned about plate waste, particularly as a result of the mandate that students take a fruit or vegetable with every meal," said Diane Pratt-Heavner, director of media relations for SNA.
