Total worker compensation increased 1.4% in Q4

U.S. worker compensation increased 1.4% in the fourth quarter as companies spent an average of $29.63 per hour worked on total compensation, the Labor Department reports. The quarterly increase was the steepest since the third quarter of 2006. Benefits made up 29.9% of compensation, while wages and salary accounted for 70.1%.
