Children with gastroenteritis have higher risk of IBS

Children who have a gastrointestinal infection may be up to seven times more likely to have irritable bowel syndrome later in life, according to a study in the American Journal of Gastroenterology. Researchers studied Ontario children who were part of a 2000 outbreak of bacterial gastroenteritis that killed seven people and made 2,300 sick.
