FDA approves Elana Surgical Kit

Dutch firm Elana has received FDA approval for its Excimer Laser Assisted Non-Occlusive Anastamosis Surgical Kit, which allows surgeons to reroute blood flow while conducting bypass procedure to treat a tumor or brain aneurysm in patients at higher risk for stroke. The agency said the device, which was approved under humanitarian use device process, should not be used in patients with arteriosclerosis or artery calcification.
