Jeff Immelt, chief executive officer at General Electric, said the company plans to pursue acquisitions and is aiming for revenue of $20 billion from new businesses as the world enters "a new economic era." "We see signs of economic strength every day. It doesn't always 'feel great,' because we have entered a new economic era," Mr. Immelt wrote in a letter to shareholders. "Volatility has become a way of life ... Classic economic cycles will be shorter and more segmented."
