Water-efficient landscapes gain popularity in Long Beach, Calif.

The practice of drought-tolerant landscaping is taking off in Long Beach, Calif., mainly propelled by the city's offer of rebates to those willing to replace grassy lawns with eco-friendly landscapes. The city has also started to plant water-efficient vegetation on street medians to show residents that drought-tolerant plants not only reduce water use but enhance the landscape.
