4 standards help make roofs resilient against storms

The "Fortified Home: Hurricane Standards" from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety can help make roofs resilient in storms, writes architect Jane Frederick. Existing roofs can be strengthened with a two-part, closed-cell polyurethane foam that can be installed under each rafter or truss, Frederick notes. If a roof needs replacement, there are four standards in particular that should be adhered to.
