Fossil fuel subsidies are a failed policy, experts say

Governments around the world use price supports and subsides for petroleum products to stave off inflation and quell civil unrest, but critics say these policies have a negative impact in the long run. Fossil fuel subsidies should be dialed down or discontinued because they eat up government funds, benefit only the rich, take away money that should go to education, health care or infrastructure, and drive away investment in low-carbon energy sources, critics said.
