NTSB to host public hearing on rail-safety concerns

A public meeting by the National Transportation Safety Board on April 22 and 23 will center on issues relating to the increase in crude oil and ethanol shipments in the U.S. rail system. "While the soaring volumes of crude oil and ethanol traveling by rail has been good for business, there is a corresponding obligation to protect our communities and our environment," said Deborah Hersman, the NTSB's chairman. The issue was also the topic of a March 6 hearing by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
