Scientists test how vineyard bush fires affect wines

Australian scientists are setting controlled-burn fires in Mildura, Victoria, to test the effects of bush fires on vineyard grapes. Grapes will be exposed to varying levels of smoke intensity by teams from the Department of Environment and Primary Industries with exposure data used to develop protections. "The Victorian wine industry is a vital part of the state's agricultural sector and it is critical we address the threat posed by smoke taint," said Ron Prestidge, executive director with the DEPI.
