SEC might not subject brokers to fiduciary standard, Gallagher says

The Dodd-Frank Act gives the Securities and Exchange Commission power to subject broker-dealers working with individual investors to the same fiduciary duty as investment advisors. However, the law does not mandate the fiduciary standard, and Commissioner Daniel Gallagher has suggested that the agency might not be interested in making the change.
