SGR repeal passed by House, but disputes remain

Disagreement about how to pay for an overhaul of Medicare's sustainable growth rate formula threatens legislation that would spare doctors from recurring pay cuts. House Republicans passed a bill that would fund the $138 billion cost by delaying for five years the Affordable Care Act's tax penalties for not having health insurance, but Democrats want to use funds saved from the drawdown of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Medical associations called on Congress to put aside partisan differences and pass the reform, but the bill is not likely to pass in the Senate.
