Advocacy groups push for further discussion on possible link between advertising and obesity

Following the American Psychological Association's call for tighter restrictions on commercials geared toward kids, other health groups are also pushing for more oversight of food commercials, citing a possible link between the commercials and childhood obesity. Critics say these ads rely on cartoon characters kids recognize and encourage rebellion against adults in order to sell high-sugar foods; the Association of National Advertisers says advertising is not linked to obesity and parents should closely monitor their children's eating habits.
