Spending by White House wannabes could set record

Spending by presidential candidates is off to a record start and could total $500 million for each of the party's nominees, strategists said. The $1 billion figure would be nearly twice the amount spent by President George W. Bush and opponent U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., in 2004.
