Amtrak to use economic-stimulus funds to improve infrastructure

Federal stimulus funds will double the size of Amtrak's capital improvement program over the next two years and allow it to address repair and infrastructure projects that have been delayed. For example, Amtrak is expected to begin repairs on a century-old bridge in Connecticut almost immediately. Speaking at Union Station in Washington, Vice President Joe Biden said the $1.3 billion Amtrak will receive from the stimulus legislation will also pay for additional rail capacity.
