AVMA official reiterates support for judicious use of antibiotics

At the recent National Pork Industry Forum in Kansas City, Mo., AVMA executive Dr. Ron DeHaven said the veterinary group believes the Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act pending in Congress is not "supported by science and lacks risk based assessment." De Haven also urged pork producers to "continue the judicious use of antibiotics unless there is scientific evidence that suggests doing so creates undue risk" and "be ready to make reasoned, science-based changes in the future."
