Hawaii project plants oilseed crops to boost biofuel production

Hawaii's Pacific Biodiesel is working with the Marine Corps and the Army Corps of Engineers to develop fast-growing oilseed crops that can be converted into biodiesel. The Biodiesel Crop Demonstration Project will identify locations on the islands of Maui and Oahu for sunflower and safflower cultivation in a bid to show that crops can be grown and converted into biofuels in 130 days or fewer.
