Pharmacists expand business amid shortage of primary-care doctors

A shortage of primary-care physicians has created an opportunity for pharmacists to expand their business, educating patients about chronic diseases and helping them adhere to medication. During the past year, Walgreen has been providing one-on-one sessions about drug regimen, blood-glucose meters and other matters to patients with diabetes. CVS Caremark's program, launched in January, identifies and contacts patients with diabetes to help them get the drugs they need.
