Scientists embark on woolly mammoth cloning project

A team of Russian and South Korean scientists is planning to bring back a long-extinct woolly mammoth by injecting the genes of the prehistoric mammal into the egg cells of a modern-day elephant. The team includes Hwang Woo-Suk of South Korea's Sooam Biotech Research Foundation, who created the world's first cloned dog, Snuppy. "This will be a really tough job, but we believe it is possible because our institute is good at cloning animals," said Hwang In-Sung, another researcher.
