Teachers learn techniques for addressing autism in the classroom

A group of teachers, parents, caregivers and others attended a recent workshop in Herkimer, N.Y., to learn creative techniques for educating students with autism. The workshop offered strategies for using music and movement to help keep students focused. "What we're wanting to do here is make sure our kids, individuals have access to the arts and that's music, the arts, dance, yoga, fitness, theatre, visual arts," said workshop leader Joanne Lara, president of Autism Movement Therapy.
