Forensic accountants need to know private-investigator laws

The AICPA has released an online guide to states that require CPAs to be licensed as a private investigator if they are practicing forensic accounting. There are about 40 states with related regulations, most of which have gone into effect in the past five years. Many CPAs might be unaware of these rules and could be charged with a felony if they are operating as a private investigator without a license.
