Problems anticipated as Medicare transition period nears end

A 90-day transition period that was set up to allow seniors and disabled people to enroll in Medicare's new prescription drug program without losing drug coverage ends April 1 and may give rise to more coverage disruptions, health officials warn. That will be the date that private insurance plans can stop coverage of drugs they don't usually pay for, and states that have stepped in to help low-income beneficiaries during the transition period also will end their assistance.
