African telecoms to compete on mobile banking

A pair of African mobile-service providers, South Africa's MTN and Kuwait-based Zain, will battle each other across much of the continent in the emerging arena of mobile-banking services. MTN, Africa's largest cell phone carrier by subscribers, and Zain are counting on using low-cost business models to provide a service that observers say is in high demand.
