Concrete subcontractor doubles shifts to get WTC back on schedule

Collavino Construction of Windsor, Ontario, is a main subcontractor on the more than $300 million concrete work for the World Trade Center Freedom Tower. Owner Renzo Collavino said the company's crews are working double shifts seven days a week to get the delayed project back on schedule. The building's temperature, design and structural requirements have created some technical challenges, but Collavino is using innovative techniques, such as using ice to control temperatures during curing phases, to complete the project.
