Obama administration seen as likely to end criticized EPA program

The Obama administration is expected this week to end a policy introduced under the Bush administration in which the EPA offers fewer environmental inspections and lighter regulation to companies that volunteer to save energy and reduce pollution. The Performance Track program has been denounced by environmentalists as a public relations sham, and while membership was supposed to be reserved for companies with excellent environmental records, a newspaper investigation found that companies with suspect records have been rewarded instead.
