Chemical firms streamline operations, production to cope with downturn

Major chemical-industry players, such as Nova Chemicals, PPG Industries and Bayer, have utilized sustainable operational and logistical practices to weather the economic slowdown. At Nova's facilities, the company went beyond traditional measures such as recycling. "We are making it sustainable from an economic standpoint ... restructuring and getting the site to the appropriate capacity for our markets," said Robert Snyder, Nova's vice president for performance styrenics.
