Government agency urges second look at GRAS ingredients

Ingredients that have already received the Food and Drug Administration's Generally Recognized As Safe status should get a closer look, says the U.S. Government Accountability Office. The GAO wants the FDA to not only determine the safety of GRAS ingredients such as spices and preservatives, but to also force food manufacturers to provide better reporting of basic information.
